Just What I Need

To add to my rather crazy week, I looked out my window this evening to find a few firemen looking at the trees in our backyard. My first thought was that a cat or other animal was stuck in the tree, but that wasn't it. Apparently a branch was draped over the power line and was smoldering. So they were waiting for the city to shut the power off before they could get to work. I was on my way out for some last minute errands, so I talked to the firemen and then took off. Luckily they were gone and the power was on when I returned.

This is what I saw from my window

There were at least four firemen at the house

Soccer Fun

Last night the boys and I went to a professional soccer game with some friends. The boys had a great time and it was a beautiful evening. Here are a few pictures of the event.

We had good seats that were close to the field

Two happy boys

Boy #1 and his friend are totally engrossed in the game or maybe this was when the high school dance team was on the field

Disconnected

For the past 24+ hours I have been disconnected; no phone, no internet, and only sporadic television. It was not planned nor was it welcomed. I felt isolated and dependent, which were feelings I did not like. I also found out about Michael Jackson's death through the 6 year olds that were here today. Apparently their families were connected. Anyway, I am in a happier place now and can share some photos from the past week.

Private Lessons

I really wish I had my camera at swimming lessons today so I could show Boy#1 jumping off the diving board and then swimming the length of the pool. This is the boy who 4 days ago did not want to do the back float without having the teacher hold onto him. Private lessons have done wonders for the boys. Boy #2 still clings to the teacher and after about 15 minutes he is ready to be done, but he also made progress. He now puts his head under water to find the rings and is blowing water bubbles like a champ. Now if it would stop raining I could take them to the local pool to practice.

Sweet Tooth

Apparently my sweet tooth has been very active lately. This is unfortunate since I am trying to slim down, but I have very little will power. Today the sweet tooth wanted cupcakes and since I had heard about a new cupcake place I decided to try it. The cupcakes looked beautiful and tasted good too. I'm glad the store is in a part of town I don't frequent, otherwise I would really be in trouble.

We couldn't decide so we ended up with 6 cupcakes (so far the chocolate peanut butter is our favorite)

Boy #1 got the vanilla

Boy #2 had the raspberry lemon

And of course there was sharing among everyone

Pie=Yum Yum

I made my first apple pie this week, complete with homemade crust. I am usually a store bought pie crust girl, but now I've realized how easy it is to make there will only be homemade crust from here on out. I had some blueberries so I threw them in for good measure. Don't look too closely at the crust. I need to make it a bit larger so I can have some overhang to work with.

Happy Birthday Grandma J

Grandma J turned 90 today. She is an amazing woman who probably gets more done in a day than I do. She is always working on something and I think she will easily make it to 100. Happy Birthday!

First Hike of the Season

The other day we went on a hike near our house. It was beautiful and the boys had lots of fun looking for lizards. This is the beginning of the hiking season for us and we are excited to spend time outside. Boy #2 is too big for the backpack this year and has to hike on his own feet, so we may not hike very long distances, but either way it will be nice to be in the mountains.

Follow the leader

We came across several lizards on the trail
